Winter’s Over- Let’s Spring Forward!

I think we can all agree that we are happy to leave the cold, snowy weather behind, and look ahead to the coming months. 2020 finds the UMW busy continuing their hard work on our most important mission, The New 2 You Boutique, and looking forward to the opening of the Schoolhouse Boutique. The Schoolhouse officially reopens on Thursday, April 2nd, with the Grand Reopening on Saturday, April 4th.

We have acquired many new household items, including dishes, books, toys, baby furniture, luggage, craft supplies, and small appliances, as well as Easter and other holiday items. Our New 2 You Boutique continuously offers gently used, excellent quality clothing that is very affordable. Come in and outfit the entire family for incredibly low prices. Both boutiques are open from 9-11 on Thursday mornings, and on the first Saturday of each month. Additionally, Saturday April 4th features one of our famous bake sales. Everyone knows what wonderful bakers we have, so mark your calendars for April 4th for the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of baked goods.

Presently, the UMW are very excited and enthused about supporting a new mission, Erin’s Angels, which helps feed needy children in the Phoenix School District. Erin’s Angels was founded in 2017 by Sheila Dion in honor and memory of Erin Maxwell, an eleven year old girl who died in 2008 after suffering a life of neglect and abuse. It was known by many that Erin did not have enough food in her home. Erin’s Angels was founded to help ensure that children who have been identified as being “food insecure” have food to eat on the weekends. Every Friday, the backpacks of 80 children are filled with nutritious, shelf-stable food items to get them through the weekend. We invited Sheila to speak at our recent UMW meeting and tell us about the program, and explain how we can best help and support this vitally important organization. Beginning on March 15th, we will be selling bottled water and tote bags with the Erin’s Angels logo on them at our weekly coffee hour, as well as at our bake sales. Anyone who is interested in learning more can go to erinsangels.com for complete information.

In addition to Erin’s Angel’s, the UMW are also proud to continue our support of The Schneider Foundation, in honor and memory of Cpl. Kyle Schneider, a fallen marine who was killed in action in 2011. The foundation supplies clothing items, including blankets and prayer shawls, food, and grocery store gift cards to military families in need. The need to help these families doesn’t end with the holidays; our support is continuous throughout the year. The Foundation also sends care packages to deployed troops, as well as supporting the families of active duty, reserves, and retired US military members.

Please mark your calendars for the Grand Reopening of the Schoolhouse on Saturday, April 4th, and plan to come shop and purchase some delicious baked goods. As always, New 2 You is open every Thursday from 9-11, and on the first Saturday of each month. We want to send out a huge “Thank you” to all of our faithful customers, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Blessings to All,

Donna Fingland, UMW President
